As part of our new Baking Trends blog series, we wanted to take a closer look at baking kit subscriptions and why they’re proving so popular. Do you have a product that could be transformed into a kit and easily delivered to your customers?
Subscriptions services across almost every sector have seen a huge rise in popularity in recent years, everything from coffee beans to razor blades, Japanese candy to gin, adored for their ease and convenience. Spurred by the pandemic lockdowns, baking subscriptions witnessed a huge surge as people stayed home and tried their hands at something new (that wasn’t banana bread!)
Baking subscriptions vary greatly in what they offer, but all fundamentally are made up of a recipe with easy-to-follow instructions and ingredients all weighed and measured to minimise the risk of it all going terribly wrong! They are ideal for beginners and those occasional bakers who want to try new things without having to amass a huge amount of ingredients.
With so many available, there’s a danger of the consumer becoming overwhelmed with choices. With that in mind, a lot of companies have decided to focus on something that makes them stand out from the crowd. BBC Good Food decided to test out some subscription services and compiled a list of their favourites.
Are you considering offering this service to your customers? Key things to think about are packaging, delivery, what you are going to offer and how frequently, and the shelf life of the items in your box. It has been noted by the industry that the consumer tends to prefer eco-friendly and sustainable packaging where possible.
Have you ever joined a baking kit subscription? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
