Brilliant BBQs & Perfect Picnics

Summer is finally here, and I don’t know about you but when I think of summer food, it’s BBQs and picnics that spring to mind! So, for our blog this month, we wanted to share some inspiration for those brilliant BBQs and perfect picnics!

When it comes to the best BBQ food, for us, burgers are the clear winners! Hotdogs are great, and we love a chicken drumstick, but an amazing burger can make a BBQ go from good to great! So, what makes a great BBQ burger?

Sizzling Chicken Burger

These sticky burgers can easily be rustled up on a warm evening for a last-minute BBQ!

Classic BBQ Beef Burger

A classic beef burger is a must-have at a barbecue. Pack blue cheese in the centre to make it a little more special and serve with your favourite sides!

Halloumi Burger

These veggie halloumi burgers in brioche buns are perfect for the whole family. Serve as a quick and easy lunch - they're also great on camping holidays!

Lamb Kebab Burger

Jazz up a shop-bought lamb burger with garlic mayo, gherkins and chilli for a hot and spicy twist. Perfect for lazy summer weekends!

You can find the recipes to these, and lots of other burgers on the BBC Goodfood website here https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/collection/bbq-burger-recipes

But a burger can’t be great without a delicious burger bun! There is so much choice, plain, sesame seeds, wholemeal, pretzel and our favourite, brioche! Why not try them all and let us know what your favourite is!

Picture the scene; warm sunshine, a gentle breeze, soft grass, perhaps a babbling river, no wasps, definitely no wasps! It’s time for that perfect picnic!

Long gone are the days where your parents packed some dodgy jam sandwiches, crunched up crisps and if you were lucky a penguin (other chocolate biscuits are available!) – picnics now can be a fancy affair with a huge host of shop-bought options, or even home-made!

For the purpose of this blog, we’ll deconstruct the picnic to a main, a side, and a dessert!

As a main, there are of course your classic sandwiches, but you could choose a sausage roll, or perhaps even a Cornish pasty! Our choice would be a quiche! We recently tried the Sainsburys summer edition Ploughman’s quiche, and it was amazing! You can find it here.

Sides in a picnic could literally be anything you want, but for us, there’s only one choice and that’s a pork pie! We love the hot water crust and the variety of pork pies available now mean that you can try a new one for each picnic you go on! Our current favourite is Lidl Melton Mowbray – it’s a great price and is totally delicious!

When you’re done with your quiche and pork pie, what you really need is more stodge! Our favourite sweet treat on a picnic has to be a classic scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam! We have tried a lot of scones, but our current favourites are from Asda (which you can find here)

We won’t get into the controversial subject of jam or cream first (obviously it’s cream!)
